After checking my child's temperature the nurse said it was 38.8, and left. I was not convinced as my child felt very warm and decided to double check it. So I grabbed the thermometer in the hospital and checked their temperature again. When we told the nurse that we checked the temperature and it’s showing 39.8, they said you should not be checking the temperature and call us to which I said I was not convinced with the temperature as my child felt hotter than that to which the nurse said you cant touch the hospital thermometer as it is our property. Next time can you not use our equipments to check the temperature, if concern, call us and we will recheck.
I said ok thats fine, but I was very concerned about my child's rising temperature and may be as well get my own thermometer from home, if thats the case and check when worried. Then the nurse said no you can’t check them. I was surprised and felt so unsafe, like why can’t I check my own child. It was just checking their temperature when I am worried and I said I respect your call on not using hospital equipments but no one can stop me from checking my child's temperature with my own thermometer.
The nurse left after that and after saying that the temperature was taken incorrectly the nurse never rechecked my child's temperature to note down the right temperature for the notes. There was no apology that the temps were not taken correctly at the first place. This was so upsetting like I don’t have right to even check my child's temperature and correct them for not taking the temp correctly.
