I had felt strange all day. My body felt heavy and I could hardly move from the bed to the toilet.
About 8.30pm I took my B/P which was 154/55, but I was shocked to see my pulse rate was only 29. I took it again, same results. I called the health line, told them the results, and the nurse put me through to Mandurah Peel hospital. They immediately called an ambulance, which arrived very quickly.
The 2 paramedics were amazing, kind, considerate and reassuring. Got clearance to take me straight to Fiona Stanley hospital, where 2 doctors and 4 nurses were waiting for me. Quickly assessed that I needed a pacemaker (I’m 81). I was then admitted to CCU, put on a drip and confined to bed until 2 days later, when I was fitted with a pacemaker.
The Doctors explained exactly what they were going to be doing. The care was excellent from the Doctors and the Nurses. The catering staff were also great. I left with a full explanation of what to do in the next 6 weeks. What could have been a very frightening experience, was not too bad at all. Many thanks to everyone involved in my care at FSH in Murdoch , WA
