"About a bad midwife experience"

About: Armadale Hospital / Midwifery Group Practice (Horizons)

(as the patient),

Recently was the worst midwife experience I’ve ever had. I had a midwife at the Armadale Antenatal MGP here in Perth just full out degrade & judge me throughout my entire appointment. Mind you I am 38 weeks pregnant & I felt they were belittling me because I missed appointments. Their lack of professionalism led me to overhear them degrading me to another midwife without them knowing that I was outside the door the whole time waiting for them to finish photocopying my documents.

The entire appointment they were saying I have no excuses & that I didn’t deserve to get a last minute iron transfusion. I felt they belittled me to my face & to other staff members. I’m so disgusted by their unprofessionalism & disappointed because it had been the only bad appointment I’d ever had at the practice.

I believe they judged me because I am a young mum & so put me down whilst I am 9 months pregnant. I hope this midwife hasn’t done this to anyone else but in my opinion they need not to be in this practice if this is how they treat young mothers like myself. I felt they had shamed me unnecessarily. It was all uncalled for & so I had made a physical complaint on a feedback sheet straight away. I hope that it gets taken care of or I hope my experience that I am writing today reaches the right people for this matter to get sorted.

Dear TJEMKK

Thank you so much for letting us know about your recent experience in our antenatal clinic.

It saddens me to read your comments regarding the actions of some of our staff members discussing your personal situation and insinuating you do not deserve the care that should be provided to all women attending our organisation.

Please accept my sincere apologies that you were made to feel degraded, judged, and belittled. This certainly goes against the health service core values and the professional conduct we expect from our staff.

To help us to investigate your case further I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to look into your concerns and encourage you to contact us via the Consumer Liaison Service on (08) 9391 1153 or by email to AKG_ConsumerLiaison@health.wa.gov.au. The Consumer Liaison Service can also arrange a time for you to meet with the maternity team manager so your specific experience can be shared.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us it is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Danielle Kilmurray
