Has a PE recently, but had to come back to ED as I was having dizzy spells. Upon arrival I was assessed and then a nurse from the Ambulatory ward explained that this ward was the way forward for me.
I was whisked off to a lovely 10 bed ward where the doctors and nurses were amazing. I felt reassured and had lots of tests done, bloods, ecg, blood pressure etc to confirm that no extra damaged has occurred.
The doctor explained my situation so well and the information given helped reduce my anxiety. I was offered water immediately and food not long after I was medical cleared to eat.
What a wonderful ward, I understand it helps take the pressure off the Ed department .. and gets patients checked up and moved back home. I do hope this Ward continues to get funding as this was an amazing experience.
I believe most of the nurses and doctors worked also in ED and it seemed this was a great place to help junior doctors and nurses learn their trade in a less frantic environment.
Communication and collegiality seemed to be at a high level. It also appeared to give the Ed doctors and nurses respite from the manic world of Ed.. making the job much more sustainable.. very impressed and can't thank the staff enough for such a great experience.
