"Birth of first child"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as a parent/guardian),

Birth of first child through MGP4 program. I didn’t know anything about midwifery program or childbirth etc. Originally (at my first appt) I wanted an epidural during labour. Over the course of my pregnancy and seeing my midwife Emma K as I learnt more about the program options/ pregnancy I transitioned to wanting a completely natural labour. I was also included in the MYtime trial which was great. MGP4/ Emma exceeded my expectations and enabled me to have an amazingly positive perspective and journey on pregnancy and labour. It’s a shame the program isn’t available to all women however I appreciate the staff are extremely under resourced and honestly deserve medals and way more recognition for the work they all do.

A few times I had other midwife’s during my pregnancy and birth and they were all lovely.

During my stay at hospital after birth the care also exceeded my expectations as the midwife’s/ doctors/ physios etc were all great. I now also see the lactation consultant through BFWA and I couldn’t recommend the service enough.

I believe there should also be more advocacy / resourcing for water births as this is a great option for women and I don’t think this is available enough.

Dear AnonVM

Congratulations on the birth of your first baby! It sounds like you had an incredible experience with the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP4) and primary midwife, Emma K. It was lovely to read about how supported and informed you felt with the exceptional care from the whole team, including midwives, doctors, physiotherapists, and lactation consultants.

At the Women & Newborn Health Service, we are extremely proud of the level of kindness and compassion demonstrated by our staff, and your positive feedback about access to continuity of care models is gratefully received. We will be very pleased to share your feedback with Emma K and the wider team to let them know the positive impact they had on you throughout your pregnancy, birth, and post-partum period.

Best wishes,

Delaney
