"Kindness and compassion"

About: Ambulance Service of New South Wales St George Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was brought into the emergency by paramedics with significant injuries and in a lot of pain. Most staff were lovely. However one stood out. She introduced herself as Alex a paramedic who would be helping out while doctors did the procedure. I am so very grateful to her. I was in absolute agony wailing and screaming from the pain. She was close beside me speaking softly and calmly and reassuring me. She wiped my tears with a tissue and I felt she was an angel. While I’m so grateful the role each staff member played, for example the person who gave the pain relief, the doctor who attended to my injury etc. Her role was indispensable too. The kindness and compassion I experienced from Alex has left a deep impact on me. Thank you Alex.

Dear circinuskp78,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent experience at St George Hospital – Emergency Department.

It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback concerning the efforts of staff. Our goal in partnership with NSW Ambulance Service is to provide a high level of service and quality healthcare, whilst ensuring the well-being and comfort of our patients, and it was heart-warming to hear the positive impact Alex & our Emergency staff had in supporting you throughout your care journey.

I was also delighted to hear that you received exceptional care during such a challenging & distressing time from our Emergency staff. We are very fortunate to have a dedicated and highly valued professional medical & nursing team that provides patient centred & compassionate care.

Your recognition of the dedication and compassion shown by Alex and the Emergency staff is appreciated. I have forwarded your kind-hearted words to the Emergency Department Leadership team & the NSW Ambulance Service to share with Alex and our Emergency Department staff.

Once again, thank you for sharing your experience with us, and I wish you all the very best with your recovery.

Sincerely,

Ange Karooz

General Manager
