"General state of public healthcare in nsw"

About: Sydney

(as a service user),

Wow where do I start. In my life time I have been so pained dealing with the public healthcare system in NSW I am forced to rely on. I feel there are so many problems in so many areas in the system I personally have experienced a lack of understanding around addiction especially those outside the norm by specialists in fields that really should understand, eg psychology, psychiatry, liver and esophicagal specialists.

A lack of continuity of care from mental health professionals, a complete lack of accountability from health professionals, been forced to go through for profit providers for counselling who by and large I believe have been focused on the bottom line and not on human beings.

Then my grandmother recently acquired a terminal illness, you would think people with a terminal illness would be afforded with decent care and support regardless of their income but based on my experience this is not true in NSW. Instead what you get is health care professionals constantly questioning the drugs previously prescribed and also general lack of care from paperwork not done and debates about which body will fund life saving equipment, to having to leave my grandmother on seemingly understaffed wards with insufficient staff where I recall staff make crude jokes and are overstretched working 12 hour shifts.

I believe my grandmother nearly died twice from eating after being given food that she couldn't eat and left to seemingly choke for ten minutes where she could have died. Further I have reached out to my local state member of parliament and the nsw health minister and the hccc the only to be referred to other bodies without my consent generally lower bodies and ignored or expected to jump through hoops that I can't jump due to having chronic health issues. I am dismayed.
