"SHDH Team mentality"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

I recently attended the ED at SHDH with my husband who suffered a dislocated and fractured shoulder. We were transferred to another hospital for care and noticed a difference in ownership of care, teamwork and mutual support that was present in our care at Swan Hill. Even when mistakes were made it was "we" at SHDH. However in the other hospital, the team were very open about failings in our care from other departments within their health service. This did erode our confidence in care.

It is only in hindsight that I realise SHDH team did not act this way and presented a united approach to our care. Thank you and well done

Dear User0023,

I do hope that your husband's shoulder is on the mend.

Your reflection on hindsight has provided such high praise to our team at SHDH through this story. We are very proud of working as "one team" at Swan Hill District Health, and we are proud of the individual units that make up the team. We also all collectively strive to provide "connected care, best experience" to each patient each visit. Sometimes this can be really difficult and patients expectations and perceptions of care and treatment cannot be met. I am very pleased that your experience was positive.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your observations. I know the team all keep a close eye on communication through this portal, but I will give them a shout out and thank them on Monday when I am next there for this care in communication and their collective mentality shown during your husband's visit.

Kind Regards

Chloe

Good afternoon User0023,

I am sorry to hear about your husband's recent injury - I sincerely hope he is now on the mend!

Thank you for this kind feedback. We certainly work hard to ensure our patients receive 'connected care / best experience' in a compassionate and professional manner. It is not only important to train our staff in safe task provision, but we believe that greater than this is to ensure we work collaboratively, respectfully and with accountability. We have a very highly skilled team that are also wonderful human beings!

Again, I hope your husband is much better. Your reflections will be passed across out team and are valued in terms of providing great insight into how it feels to be a patient. Thank you!

Kind regards,

Kath
