"A commendation regarding the care, professionalism and knowledge of a care provider who visited Exmouth District Hospital"

About: Exmouth Health Service / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

Our 10yr old son had an accident at the skate park, which required X-rays. The radiologist we dealt with was very caring and thorough through and beyond the whole process. His name was Chris and he was filling in for the absent local radiologist. His gentle nature and genuine care was above and beyond what I ever expected, especially as a temporary care provider.

There were some issues with the machine at the hospital for the imaging, yet Chris was very patient and understanding.

We are in a remote area and the doctors wanted me to drive to Carnarvon that night for a CT scan. It was late in the day. Carnarvon is 3.5hrs drive one way. The nurse was concerned for safety reasons due to the stressful lengthy day and me having to drive on my own as a single mother. We changed the appointment to the next morning, which still meant a 7hr drive in one day, leaving at 5am.

I spoke with Chris again and he was extremely supportive and explained details and alleviated many of my concerns with his knowledge, care and professionalism.

The next morning a specialist from Perth called me in a panic to instruct me to get our child to the hospital immediately with the suspicion of a broken neck. I took our son back to the hospital and Chris was again exceptional with care. (Our son didn’t have a broken neck by the way…it was shadowing on the image)

Following this, I saw Chris again and he touched base with me to see how our son was progressing. His genuine care was appreciated and above my expectations. I also asked Chris for some information regarding some images on my own neck that I have a copy of on my phone, which I have put aside for now, as I have been too busy to deal with it all. In our conversation yet again, Chris was exceptionally knowledgeable and caring.

I felt I had to let someone know, as he was so helpful and caring.

Dear 22Grateful22

Thank you for taking the time to provide us such lovely feedback.

I was delighted to read how well Chris supported you and your son across two presentations and a further follow up. He has excelled in providing the compassionate and comprehensive care we aim to provide at Carnarvon Hospital. I’m sure after such long journeys to reach the hospital it was a relief to have Chris provide a welcoming environment for you. I will ensure that your kind words are shared with Chris and he knows how much you appreciated all he did for you and your son.

I hope your son is on the mend now.

Regards

Kumar Deep
