"Outpatient Care! Patients are to be taken seriously, not for granted."

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Outpatient Department (Eyes & General)

(as a relative),

Sydney Eye Hospital/Outpatient Clinic

Recently, was the 3rd follow-up appointment for my spouse regarding a possible onset of Glaucoma.

They were told by their consulting eye specialist at the outpatients clinic on a couple days before, that they will need to come back for a check-up that will involve them being given water to drink over an hour, and their eye pressure would be checked every 15 minutes.

- My spouse registered 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment.

- The first time that they were attended to was around 3 hours later

In my opinion, if this is not ridiculous, you may have a better word for it.

We know that we are in the thick of the Public System. But hey, I feel there should be decency, discipline, and deportment that the health system should infuse this trait into your people that deliver such care services.

This is not a complaint. But a sorry observation of what we experienced and saw.

Dear virgokj38,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital Outpatients Department.

It is disappointing to hear that your experience was not seamless and that you had a significant wait time.

We will raise this feedback with the department manager to ensure a review of the booking process takes place and to work towards improving our service.

We value patient feedback and opportunities for improvement and would be grateful if you could contact us directly via SESLHD-SSEHExecutiveServices@health.nsw.gov.au with any additional details that may assist us with a review.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback via Care Opinion. Your feedback is valuable in helping us to improve our booking process and service for our patients.

Regards,

Dr Pauline Rumma
