"Possibility of going blind"

About: Donnybrook Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had hit myself in the eye with the pipe of a blower vac while pulling it apart. I thought i had lost my eye but to my amazement i just had a bruise and thought nothing of it. Later that night i all of a sudden started seeing floaters in my vision. A lot of floaters that made it look like looking through a flyscreen and then more like an oil slick. I slept thinking it would go away over night and when i woke i googled what had happened and it said to go to ER straight away.

I presented to donnybrook and had Kirrily check me over and could see the severity of what was going on and got hold of the doctor K who is very good with eyes, after many tests he determined that emergency surgery may be needed. They booked me into the bunbury eye surgery and we headed there . After many tests they determined that i had torn the retina and needed laser surgery straight away to stop it detaching and causing me to go blind .

So if it wasn't for kirrily and dr K i would have lost my vision

Dear SP-anonymous

Thanks so much for your lovely feedback regarding our amazing Donnybrook Hospital Team!

Kirrily, one of our Nurse Practitioners, works closely with all our Doctors to ensure our patients get the best care we can provide.

Escalating your care to Bunbury so you can see a specialist was the best care for you and I'm glad we were able to play a part in you keeping the vision in your eye.

I'll make sure to pass on your thanks to Kirrily and Dr K!

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your experience at Donnybrook Hospital.

Yours Sincerely,

Barry Moroney

Director of Nursing
