"Negative experience at the information session"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Pelvic Pain Clinic

(as the patient),

Attended the pelvic pain information session via MS Teams, in which it became quickly apparent how disgustingly invalidating I felt 99% of the content of the presentation is. Not only does this presentation, but also all content for the pelvic pain clinic, seemingly use extreme amounts of exclusionary language towards people who have pelvic pain but do not identify as a woman, but I found also uses derogatory language towards attendees and our experiences, I felt often speaking as if attendees are children. One such example was the opening topic, "Bowel: Self Help" in which bowel movements were referred to as "toileting" and a reference was made to "most of us probably having children and knowing the difficulties" or some such similar infantilistic, in my opinion, demeaning drivel.

In my opinion, the entire presentation was horrific, appalling, and shocked multiple family members and friends when I shared the presentation I was seeing. The "advice" given is not only unhelpful for the majority of attendees who, given the approximately 6 month wait period to attend this "Information" session, I believe will have already tried most if not all of the provided self help tips, but also potentially dangerous, giving advice on things that should not be attempted unsupervised and unguided by a professional, such as certain stretches, exercises. I am absolutely appalled by this entire experience, and am glad I did not attend in person for I would not have been able to contain my visceral disdain to silence throughout the unnecessary and unbearable, required, 2 hour time slot.
