"Delayed surgery"

About: St George Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My spouse was admitted in the morning to emergency at hospital because of acute stomach pain, they ran a blood test. They found their appendix is going to burst, they were meant to operate in the afternoon, kept dragging to evening, then the following morning the surgeon just came in and said they must delay again. They keep giving us false hope.

They’re not sure when it will be done. My spouse has so much anxiety and stress. They keep delaying, delaying, delaying. I have not been well recently, and I have to stay here now so my child has to stay home alone. It is so frustrating. They always saying there is emergencies.

Dear fireej54

I am sorry to hear about your recent experience at St George Hospital and the distress it has caused you and your family.

Unfortunately, there are delays that are unavoidable due to multiple emergencies occurring at the one time. I am sorry that the extended wait times caused you and your husband stress and anxiety. Often communicating delays to our patients is a difficult task but thank you for your feedback as we can always improve our communication skills.

We take your concerns seriously and are committed to improving our services. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience in more detail to better understand how we can address your concerns and enhance the care we provide. Please feel free to reach out to our Patient Experience Manager at (02) 9113-2687 or via email at SESLHD-STG-ConsumerFeedback@health.nsw.gov.au.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We once again apologise for the distress caused and appreciate your willingness to help us improve by sharing your experience.

Sincerely,

Samantha Martin
