I called up the outpatient paediatric to discuss the shortage of my child's ADHD medication. I explained the pharmacy we go to was advised there is a shortage of their medication until approximately May 2025 and that our pharmacist recommended that I was to call the paediatric team to discuss an alternative. I called and the staff member explained that another parent had also called a fortnight earlier but was told 22nd December would be when their chemist would get new supplies. I asked if there was a way the Drs could clarify this information as my child will need an alternative if can't get and I expressed my concerns that the team go on break next week and we will need this sorted prior.
The staff member informed me there was no way for them to confirm and my best bet was to ring around all the pharmacies to see when their supplies may be in and hopefully one will have it earlier than our chemist. My concern is a non clinician is giving out medication advice and didn't refer my child to the team for review (As in send a request to the team to review within the next few days, I was not expecting to speak to someone right then and there). I have tried ringing again to follow up as my child only has 5 tablets left, but have had to leave a message on answering machine. Will try again later.
