"MGP Bunbury"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I had my main and secondary midwife take care of me. They were both amazing throughout the pregnancy and upcoming of birth, I unfortunately didn’t get to have my main midwife for the birth of my beautiful baby  but my secondary midwife did amazing.

Only downside was the connection wasn’t as strong with my secondary midwife and I felt as if I wasn’t getting much communication from my secondary midwife during the labouring process. During my stay at the hospital once my mgp midwife turned up the hospital midwives and staff seemed to completely ignore the mgp ladies and their patients.

I had a couple issues with feeling pressured by hospital staff to get antibiotics after I said no thank you, and my mgp midwife didn’t double check with me if I was having it they just started setting up and my parent had to tell them I wasn’t having it after just telling four other hospital staff I wasn’t going to have the antibiotics.

The aftercare was amazing the debrief of birth was very helpful and I was not discharged until both myself and my main midwife were certain I had the right help once I was discharged.

Dear Ajadam97,

My name is Amy Gumbrell and I am the Clinical Midwifery Consultant (manager) of the South West Midwifery Group Practices.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. We're so happy to hear that both your main and secondary midwives provided excellent care during your pregnancy and leading up to birth, and your kind words are very much appreciated.

I'm truly sorry to hear about the concerns you raised regarding the communication with your secondary midwife during your labour, as well as the experience with hospital staff. We understand how important it is to feel supported and heard, especially during such a significant time.

I would also like to apologise for the pressure that you felt in regards to having antibiotics after you had already declined them, and that this was not communicated well between staff, I can understand how frustrating and upsetting that must have been. Your feedback is valuable, and we'll continue to work with our teams to ensure better communication and that patients’ preferences are respected more thoroughly throughout the process.

I would like the opportunity to discuss these concerns with you personally to ensure that your concerns have been adequately addressed, and I would appreciate you contacting me either via email on amy.gumbrell@health.wa.gov.au or via telephone on 0436005881. Alternatively, you can contact Katrina Jones (Bunbury Maternity Clinical Midwifery Manager) on Katrina.Jones2@health.wa.gov.au or on 97221337 if you prefer.

We are so glad to hear the aftercare and birth debrief were helpful, and that you felt well-supported before your discharge. We at both Bunbury MGP and the Bunbury Maternity Ward are committed to providing a comprehensive and respectful care experience, and your feedback helps us continue to improve.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, and hope to hear from you soon. Wishing you and your beautiful baby all the best!

Warm regards,

Amy Gumbrell
