I have had both my babies at KEMH, first through the FBC and my second through the MGP4 program. The continuity of care provided in both was amazing.
Whilst I had a really great experience first time round and loved the model of care there were some complications with my delivery and it meant I had bit of a difficult recovery, hence I was feeling a bit anxious going into this pregnancy and what labour, birth and recovery could look like for me.
I knew I wanted midwife led care again and I was lucky enough to get a spot early in my pregnancy in the MGP4 program. During all appointments I felt listened too and knew straight away I would be supported and cared for throughout. It wasn’t for my incredible midwife Elly I really do not think I would have been able to have the dream water birth that I did.
Elly advocated for me, supported me and gave me so much good advice throughout the pregnancy, birth and post natal period. She was confident, knowledgeable and experienced and always made me feel safe and heard. Her care during labour was amazing and having someone who we knew in the room with us made us feel so much more at ease. Elly was always by my side during the birth filling me with confidence and positive affirmations that I could do it when I really didn’t think I could, she made the room light hearted and calm and we walked away from the birth of our son in awe of her expertise. We felt very lucky to have her as our primary support and will be forever thankful to her.
If it wasn’t for the MGP4 program I do not think I would have felt empowered to try for the birth I got to have, it was so special. I am so grateful for the care I received. Having a familiar midwife visit you at home for the days following birth is also such an incredible service. I really can’t thank all the staff enough who looked after us. I will be recommending this model of care to others and I hope I can come back and experience it again if we are lucky enough to have a 3rd baby.
