"Emergency Doctor"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had nose bleed which lasted more than 40 minutes from last 2 weeks almost every other day. My GP did cortrise nostrils and told me to go to emergency if it still happen. It did happen again next day and I was still bleeding when I reached emergency after almost 40 min.

First aid was given by nurse and after waiting almost 5 hours, doc saw me and said that I should not come to emergency if I bleed again . I got ENT referal and got appointment after 5 months.

My point is GP is saying go to Emergency and emergency doc is saying dont come here, then what should someone who is already in bad mental state because of heavy blood loss every now and than should do? My kids are traumatised after seeing me in blood almost everyday. I felt doctor was so rude .

Dear RrRZZ,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing nose bleeds, it sounds incredibly stressful and frustrating. Dealing with frequent nosebleeds and feeling stuck in conflicting advice from your GP and the emergency department must be overwhelming, especially with children.

The Emergency Department is consistently in high demand however, I apologise if you felt the doctor at the time was rude. This is not what Fiona Stanley Hospital stand for and we will look onto this further.

Without knowing further medical details, I cannot provide an answer on the conflicting advice on where is most appropriate for you. I am glad to hear you have an ENT appointment. I hope this set a clear pathway for resolutions and recovery.

Please note that there are Urgent Care facilities within the community that can support you when you are unable to see your GP.

Kind regards

Luke Dix
