"Positive Birth Course and Birth Experience"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity Positive Birth Program

(as a service user),

I wanted share some feedback of the positive birthing class and share my birthing story.

I was absolutely blessed with the most amazing midwife, Anna, who is a full bottle on hypnobirthing. I believe in meeting her I met an angel. The hypnobirthing techniques I used while awaiting a birthing suite (breathwork and bouncing on a ball) combined with feeling of being adequately educated, meant I had no anxiety. So by the time I was taken to my suite, I was already 4cm dilated.

I elected to be induced with the artificial oxytocin as I was GBS positive and didn't want to increase baby's exposure after my waters breaking. The contractions quickly went from 'oof what was that', to me being bent over the toilet unable to talk. My partner and Mum used the pressure points on my back and we played the calming hypnobirthing track. After about 2 hours I requested the gas, which I found was very effective at keeping me relaxed and spacey in between surges. I was definitely in that trance state!

Soon after receiving the gas, I had reached my threshold and requested an epidural. By this point I was 8cm dilated and again, I attribute this to my calm state. Once the epidural was in (which was amazing by the way!), I finally felt like I could rest a bit and just float away to a different dimension. Again, it was shortly after this that I was fully dilated and ready to push. I used my breathwork and the midwives guided me as I pushed our 4.1kg boy out and into the world where my husband helped to receive him. Birthing truly is raw - at one point I was literally vomiting my baby out before vomiting on myself while shaking uncontrollably from adrenalin after his birth, but I felt so empowered!

I absolutely credit this course with giving me the knowledge to confidently choose my own path and the tools that worked for me.

I wanted to thank Kasey and Katrina for making this course available to us. I believe we are truly blessed to have a team of midwives advocating for women they'll probably never meet, but who's lives they have changed forever.

My waters semi broke at 4.30am in the morning and by 9.15pm I had my boy in my arms.

Dear yellowmy58,

Thankyou for taking the time to share you experience with our services on care opinion. I read your birth story and thought, wow .. you rocked it. I am so pleased that we were able to provide you with the support you needed: not only in providing you with knowledge and strategies in the antenatal period but additionally through your birth, is wonderful.

Kasey is a wonderful midwife, full of so much information to provide women and supports with resources to navigate the birth journey. And Anna is equally as amazing, in supporting you to make decisions throughout your birth she has demonstrated the values that we encourage within all our staff. To provide information, support and the strength for you to dictate your own birth. I know that they will be humbled by your positive words, and I will gladly pass on your beautiful feedback.
