I was a part of the Community Midwifery Program in Perth for the pregnancy and birth of my second daughter, who joined us earthside in February 2025. I was placed with Midwife Wendy, who is part of the North team. From the start, Wendy was attentive, kind, gentle, and proved very knowledgeable. Although this would be my second birth, this was my first home birth experience, and Wendy assured me that the program is safe, because of my low-risk pregnancy. Anytime I had doubts, Wendy would provide me with the assurance I needed to hear.
My home birth experience with Wendy, my student midwife, and support midwives who were present on the day was absolutely fantastic. It was easily one of the highlights of my life - welcoming our second baby girl into the world in our bedroom, and in the presence of her older sister. My midwives were calm, quiet, and gave me all the freedom to move and labour however I felt comfortable to. Within a short few hours, I was guiding our baby girl into the world. There is nothing like taking a nice shower after birth in your own bathroom, and then getting into your own bed after birth - bliss.
Unfortunately for us, our baby developed a complex form of jaundice a couple of days after birth that required phototherapy in the hospital. This was a stressful time for us, but Wendy was only a text message or phone call away. Because of the continuity of care, she knew me background, our baby's background, and understood my preferences, and was able to provide me with sound medical advice. I am incredibly grateful for the support I had in Wendy post-birth, as being freshly post-partum is a vulnerable time, and her care took a load of stress off my shoulders.
Based on my experience, I would urge any soon-to-be pregnant Mummas to look into the MGP or CMP programs, as I believe having a main midwife who will follow you through your pregnancy and birth makes a world of a difference to your journey. Thank you Wendy, and the CMP team!
"Fantastic personal, genuine, and continued care from my CMP Midwife"
