"Outpatient appointment rescheduled"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

Nothing like being a cat 2 patient and first off, after the 90 days being told it will be 12 months to get an appointment but go to your GP and get them to do more referrals to get bumped up the list.

So I do that, in fact my GP is so mad that he sends at least 3 new referrals, the first referral came from GES at FSH to gastro, so not even a new patient to FSH. Finally get an appointment after getting worse and ED and GP saying we can't help you any further we can only put a bandaid on your problem and hopefully get you through to your appointment, then get a phone call 3 weeks out from the appointment to be told oh sorry the doctor has just told us they won't be here so we've rescheduled you to May.

Now I understand it isn't the clerk's fault, and I apologised for my behaviour, but understandably I burst into tears and told them it wasn't good enough. To be met with well go to ED if you need and get them to contact us. For what?? Over the last month I have been in my local ED 4 times for them to contact FSH to try and expedite my appointment to now have it pushed back 2 more months.

I live in constant pain, nausea, fatigue and am unable to work due to this. When the pain gets so bad I end up in ED requiring heavy pain meds that knock me out for days. This system is so broken and I feel no one cares, it honestly feels like the only way I will be seen is to be close on deaths door. I was excited for the appointment and finally, hopefully having a plan that would allow me a chance to be pain free and able to feel like a functioning human again. Now I'm left floundering and feeling broken.

Hello Snoopoo,

I am sorry to hear about your experience at Fiona Stanley Hospital. It would have been a frustrating experience having your appointments rescheduled particularly considering the medical issues you are having.

While we appreciate the time you have taken to comment, it is difficult to provide details on what has happened regarding your appointment without further patient and clinical details. If you would like us to investigate this further, I encourage you to contact the Fiona Stanley Hospital Patient and Family Liaison Service on FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au or via phone on 9431 2787 between 8.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Kind regards,

Luke Dix

A/Executive Director
