"The excellence of care provided at Albany Health Campus"

About: Albany Health Campus / Emergency Department Albany Health Campus / Maternity Ward Albany Health Campus / Operating Theatre

(as the patient),

From the moment I stepped into the Emergency Department I received exceptional care. I was fully informed of the progress of my presentation, which then required emergency surgery that day. I was placed in a non-surgical ward (Maternity Ward) as an overflow surgical patient. However, this did not affect the quality of care and the degree of professionalism that I received from all staff involved. I want to pay particular attention and thanks to my night duty nurse (Midwife) called Carol. Carol was the one constant I had for the 3 nights I was kept in hospital. This enabled my care to be consistent throughout all communications, in relation to personal needs, clinical needs and ongoing care.  I wish to extend my sincere thanks to Carol for all her hard work and dedication to her job, especially given I wasn't a maternity patient. I would also like to thank my Surgeon Dr Thomas for his professionalism and exemplary skill in managing and treating my ruptured Appendix. It was a messy situation, but the immediate care and ongoing management of the infection was first class. Thank you to all the team who cared for me, you really made my admission the most comfortable and pleasant experience given the nature of my condition.

Then, about 10 days later, I had to re-present to the emergency department due to increased abdominal pain. I was immediately taken into the department and had urgent bloods and another CT Abdomen with contrast. Thankfully, I did not have a collection or free fluid anywhere, so was advised to alter my diet to allow the bowel to rest. They gave me a litre of IV fluids as I was somewhat dehydrated and analgesia to go home with. The treating ED Doctor acted swiftly in getting me seen by the surgical on-call team.  This enabled me to get fully assessed quickly enabling me to be discharged home with minimal wait times.

Thank you to all the ED staff, the Surgical team of Dr Thomas and of course, the nurses on the Maternity ward. You all do an incredibly amazing job!  Thank you!

Dear The Ruptured Appendix Patient,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your heartfelt feedback. We’re incredibly grateful to hear that, despite the seriousness of your condition, you felt so well supported and cared for throughout your time with us.

We'll be sure to pass on your appreciation to Carol—she’ll be touched to know her support meant so much to you.

We're also pleased to hear that Dr Thomas and the surgical and ED teams provided you with the swift and skilled care needed, both during your initial admission and when you returned to the ED.

Wishing you continued recovery and good health. Thank you again for your kind message—it means a great deal to all of us.

Kind Regards
