"Verbal outburst by staff member"

About: Harvey Hospital / General Ward

(as a relative),

To whom it may concern

I'm writing to you to make a formal complaint about a staff member working at the hospital recently.

Upon arriving at the door off the sunroom in the aged care wing, I saw an old person in the chair. When they saw me they called out to a staff member that someone was there, when they called out to the staff member a second I recall time a loud angry voice screamed "what, I am busy".

The elderly person looked scared, shocked and shrank back into the chair.

I continue to wait at the door for approximately 5 minutes when my parent wandered up the path from where they'd been sitting out the front. We both waited a few more minutes before I told my parent I would walk around to see what was going on.

I entered through the main door walked through the corridors down the hall into the aged care area and saw whom I assume was the screaming staff member making a bed.

Thy sternly told me that they were busy, the door we had waited at was not generally used and I would have to get my parent to walk around. I said I knew they were busy because id heard them scream it from outside, i then wondered how the poor old dear in the room with them at the time had felt. As I turned and began to walk back up the passageway the staff member was saying something about making a complaint if I want and I then heard them making their way towards the door followed by the click of it opening so I stopped and turned around. As the staff member was letting my parent in I said "it's a good thing I didn't walk all the way back around, the staff member has let you in here anyway."

I believe the staff member was not in a good mood telling me that I had no idea what had been going on to which I replied it's still not acceptable to scream at patients like you're yelling at your kids at home.

Still obviously annoyed they said I didn't know what I was talking about to which I replied I had worked in aged care and their actions we're not appropriate. The staff member suggested I go back to aged care and I responded by saying I may well do that. They then said they did not care and I told them that that is their problem they clearly don't f****** care.

The staff member then walked away towards the staff's station and a short time later another staff member approached me and asked me what had happened and I explained it to them, They weren't sure how my parent had gotten outside as they'd been in their room earlier when the staff member had seen them and I said that was irrelevant as to my understanding they are allowed outside on their own.

How it made me feel was concerned.
