"Surgical wait / stuff"

About: Rockingham General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I felt staff did not listen to concerns, family history or gps recommendations. Daily severe pain requiring strong medication, been waiting over a year for hysterectomy with no care plan or contact. Had to push to get the okay for surgery and being low category even after gp reports and high daily pain.

One dr I felt was very rude and was trying to convince me this is normal and manageable without surgery but when asked if what they were recommending would be affective they said it might.

Dear Shazza712

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am truly sorry to read of all the issues you experienced at Rockingham General Hospital in the gynaecology service.

You raised several issues which I take very seriously. Without your personal details (and consent) I am unable to investigate this fully. I would like to investigate this for you as there is clearly areas we can improve, and perhaps identify learning opportunities for staff and / or process improvement opportunities.

May I respectfully request that you contact our Consumer Liaison Team so that we may work through the issues you have identified, not only for your benefit but also as an opportunity to improve for the benefit of future patients. The Consumer Liaison Team can be contacted on 9599 4323 or by email rgh.feedback@health.wa.gov.au.

Kind Regards

Kath Smith

Update posted by Shazza712 (the patient)

Hi Kathy, thank you for your reply.

I have already reached out to the Consumer Liaison Team, unfortunately they seemingly continued to over look my condition even when supplied with gp documents, I was told without further evidence there was nothing that can be done about categorization for hysterectomy.

When asked what further evidence could be provided they were unable to tell me. I have scans, family history and blood work to prove my pain is coming from this condition but apparently this is not enough, yet no one knows what would be enough. So unfortunately I am having to continue with daily opioid mediation to manage my pain as I have for over 2 years.
