"Care from the Nurse Practitioner"

My husband was suffering with muscle spasms in his lumbar region with pain also radiating across his abdomen below his right rib, and behind his hip bone (Illium?) I had to call an ambulance to get him to the hospital as he could not sit or stand without the spasms increasing in severity.

Vanessa asked a multitude of questions and was empathetic and very calmly took things in hand. She arranged several video conferences with a doctor and she then administered the drugs that were prescribed. Although the pain diminished somewhat, it wasn’t alleviated. She then arranged a transfer to a larger hospital where there are more facilities so that the cause of the pain could be investigated more thoroughly.

We were present when Vanessa was attending to a mature age patient with, I understand, very significant mental health problem, their relative was with them also. I recall she took a great deal of time with them and so very calmly explained the possible solutions to their predicament. It was heartwarming.

From the time Vanessa took us into her care we were treated with great care and compassion. Her bedside manner is exemplary and made such a huge difference to the anxiety we were both experiencing. 

We were 800kms from home so that also makes the situation that much more distressing…

Regardless of that, we both feel that we could not have had better care anywhere else.
