About: South Eastern Sydney Local Health District

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) will be launching Patient Opinion on 12 December, 2016 with Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital the first facility to ‘go live.’

The patient experience and what matters most is important to us.  Patient Opinion is an opportunity to communicate openly and honestly and we consider it a gift of experience from patients, families and carers.

This is an opportunity to tell us what we are doing well and areas that we can improve on.  In return, we will ensure that the stories of our patients, families and carers are heard.  Patients will be able to see who reads their story and whether their story has made a difference.

In line with our core values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment, SESLHD – of which Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital is a part of – is committed to providing quality and safe healthcare to patients.

It is important for people to have trust in those looking after either their own health or that of their loved ones and we want to make sure that we continue to focus on making patient experiences better.

We are keen to hear about important matters such as: access, quality, safety and care experience.  Feedback will be shared with our staff and we will encourage them to reflect on the care provided, celebrate the positive and identify what can be done better.

Located in Sydney’s central business district, Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital is steeped in history, with a legacy of nursing and medical firsts to its credit.  It is Australia’s first hospital and dates from the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788.  The hospital, which includes an emergency department, has become a centre of excellence in the areas of eye, hand and sexual health as well as specialist alcohol and other drug treatment services.

The staff at Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital strive to deliver the very best care and put the patients at the centre of everything they do, however, for them to continue to provide quality healthcare, they are keen to listen to the people who they care for, and respond accordingly.
