Reblogged with permission from Care Opinion UK.
Recently, staff on the children's ward at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, UK decided they would like to invite online feedback from patients and families via an iPad mounted on the wall.
They asked us if we could make Care Opinion work in this situation, so we added story-telling in "kiosk mode".
What is kiosk mode?
Kiosk mode is a new storytelling page which can be used for any service we list.
It differs from our standard "tell your story" page in a few important ways:
- A story posted through the kiosk mode page will be linked to the single service for that page.
- There's no facility to add tags to the story.
- The form is shorter than our usual workflow.
- The story author won't be logged in.
- The page goes "back to the start" once a story is submitted.
All this makes kiosk mode a good solution when you are collecting stories for one service, you might be sharing a device between people, and you need a shorter, simpler storytelling workflow.
When we moderate stories coming in through kiosk mode, we will add the relevant tags. We'll also add links to any additional services which are mentioned in the story, so we can join up care pathways.
How to get started
Getting started with kiosk mode is quick and easy. You don't need to log in.
First, find the service on Patient Opinion which you want to collect stories about. For example, here's the page for emergency at Perth Children's' Hospital.
Second, on that page follow the link for kiosk mode. It's a small link to the lower right, and it looks like this:
That's all there is to it. Now you can start inviting stories!
You'll have noticed that kiosk mode is just a special service page on Patient Opinion. So you can share the link to kiosk mode for your service whenever you want.
For example, some people are testing out sending emails or texts to patients with a link to the kiosk page for their service.
A normal service page link looks like this:
And a kiosk mode page for the same service looks like this:
If you are working with children, you might want a kiosk page with a little bit of extra "monkey business". If so, you need to add a little bit extra to your link. Just add "?showmonkey=true" to the end of the link, like this:
We are grateful to Monkey Wellbeing for allowing us to work with Monkey on Care Opinion.
