"My care following a mountain biking accident"

About: Busselton Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had a mountain bike crash recently in Dunsborough. My husband drove me to Busselton ED; I had multiple cuts and bruising to my right shoulder, tricep, elbow, palm, hip, knee and shin, and I suspected a broken left wrist. I was in a bit of a mess and pain.

I was assigned Dr Adam and RN Sarah.

I would just like to say how amazing they both were in their care and assessment of my condition and listened to me, taking on board my concerns and requests of my treatment plan. I felt valued, cared for and important. Nurse Sarah was exemplary; she was kind, caring, attentive, efficient and professional. She went out of her way to make sure my husband and I were okay whilst still caring for her other patients in the same way too. I had to return the following day for X-ray and review. Nurse Sarah was again on duty and remembered me immediately putting me at total ease and once again undertook her care of me in the same kind, caring and efficient manner. We are too quick nowadays to give our feedback for bad service, I feel it is so important to acknowledge the great service that is given by the doctors and nurses in this highly demanding area of ED nursing. I would also like to acknowledge the exemplary care afforded me on the second day by Dr Matt who left no stone unturned with regards to my follow up care, due to the rare nature of the bone I had broken in my left wrist; he referred me to a general surgeon for a comprehensive assessment of my fracture and its management. Dr Nick was great; he allowed me to actively comment and discuss my treatment options and management plan and referred me to OT Barbra who specialises in hands. Barbra was also kind, gentle, compassionate and professional and I felt completely confident in her care and in her abilities. I am 3 weeks into a 6 week cast, with a possible additional 6 weeks for associated ligament damage but I simply had to write and tell everyone what a positive and amazing experience I have had at the hands of the collaborative multidisciplinary team responsible for my care and recovery. WACHS staff are amazing individuals who make up a dynamic team. Thank you.
