"ED experience resulting in another hospital admission"

About: Joondalup Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as other),

I went into Joondalup Hospital Emergency Department last year with chest pains and nausea. I explained to the staff that I had the same symptoms a few days before and went to a local medical centre who took bloods. I was in emergency for about 5-6 hours before I was discharged. Around a week later I had a heart attack and ended up at Royal Perth Hospital where I had surgery for heart failure. I don't feel I was thoroughly checked out in the Joondalup Hospital and would like some answers. I feel let down by the health system.

Dear Bull

Thank you for contacting us via the Patient Opinion website.

We read of your experience of presenting to Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) Emergency Department (ED) with chest pains and nausea, where you felt you were not thoroughly checked out. Please accept our sincere apologies for your experience during what would have been a worrying and anxious time for you.

It is extremely important to us that we investigate all the details of your presentation to obtain an understanding of what happened and to identify if there were things that we could have done differently. To this end, we would be grateful if you could contact our consumer liaison office on 08 9400 9672 as we would like to obtain further details from you. Once we have completed our investigation, we would be happy to provide you with our feedback. You can discuss how you would like to receive this feedback, when you contact our consumer liaison office.

We hope that you have fully recovered following your surgery and that you are receiving the very best of care.

Kind regards

Paul Taylor-Byrne
