My child was diagnosed with a chronic illness a number of months ago. The team who look after my child at PCH (Perth Children's Hospital) are outstanding, although sometimes very busy. The doctors have a special nurse that helps with patient's care by emails, phone calls or just visits to the ward and DTU (Day Treatment Unit).
She is such an amazing lady and she deserves to be recognised for how fabulous she is.
From what I know her contract covering Maternity leave is approaching and I feel that when families connect with their support person they need to be able to voice how it makes them feel to face the facts that they are not going to be there.
We need a voice, we need to be given a choice and if that means putting up a fight to say we want her as a part of the our care team!
I’m sure that I’m not the only one out there that would be very lost without her guidance and help. In the last number of months (since my child's diagnosis) there is not one phone call or email that goes unanswered. She provides the best care and even if it’s just a chat to calm a mother or father she is a super nurse in that respect.
I’m trying to figure out how to keep her. I believe that if she leaves it will be detrimental to kids in care.
Maybe this platform can help raise awareness in all fields to give us a say.
If not give us some direction as to how we make change to our kids care?
Sometimes it's not about the doctors and specialist, it’s about the continuing face of some of these nurses that we grow to love.
