About: GPs in the Deakin Electoral District

(as the patient),

I saw a GP for about a number of years. In my opinion, the doctor rushes you through virtually every appointment; it is supposed to be 10 minutes, but you never spent more than 5. If I had a detailed issue I would book a double appointment. I felt the doctor would berate me for doing this and if the problem wasn't solved after 5 minutes they would usher me out and tell me to make another appointment.  They diagnosed me as having type 2 diabetes but every HBA1C blood test (used to help diagnose and monitor people with diabetes), I did come back perfect; between 5. 0 and 5. 5. I got a second opinion and the doctor told me I am not a type 2 diabetic.

I felt the GP had a tendency to dismiss a lot of health complaints I would describe and say - it is a side effect of your psychiatric medication. For example, I'd been on the same meds for over 6 months with no problems, then started getting vertigo. I thought it was an ear infection, but the doctor blamed my meds. I said it's only happened the past week or so and in my opinion they ignored me. I believe they treated me badly because I am a psych patient.

I see a different doctor now who is very nice and takes a full 15 minutes.
