"Recovery from meth addiction"

About: Lives Lived Well - Cairns Shanty Creek Residential Rehabilitation Facility

(as the patient),

I was looking for a rehab when I first contacted Kirsty through Shanty Creek and my psychiatrist recommended Shanty Creek and knew the region well. I was looking to change my life and wanted something different from the city and wanted to be in the country away from high risk. I chose this rehab because I could be more honest, let my barriers down without temptation. I had spoken to many rehabs and found Lives Lived Well more understanding of my criminal past and my need for help. My worker understood my unique situation. I was at a time when I wanted change. I continued to work with my worker via phone whilst I was in prison and felt supported knowing I had a safe place to come upon release. I successfully completed my resi without incident and transitioned to Lives Lived Well Transition House in Cairns where I continued with the support of Transition Worker to keep me on the straight and narrow and complete my goals. Transition House Cairns allowed me to successfully achieve in my cert 111 in community service. I also received support from CREST (Community Re-Entry Service Team) Cairns. I now have my own unit, have completed work  placement and am volunteering my time and loving the experience. There are so many things I want to achieve whilst a volunteer that would not have been possible without the support of Lives Lived Well.

Hello Healed

Thank you for your story. My apologies for my delayed response to your post.

It is great that you have been able to make so many changes in your life with the support of staff from Lives Lived Well - CREST program, Shanty Creek and Transition House - in Cairns. Your own knowledge of what you needed has played a significant part in finding the right help and support you needed and I am glad you found that with Lives Lived Well.

Reading that you now have your own unit, completed a Cert III and work placement, and are now volunteering where you are doing things you did not believe were possible for you is a credit to your persistence and courage. What a change!

I wish you all the best for your life journey ahead.

Warm regards

Gerard
