"My Elderly Dad's Care"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / General Medicine Ward 10A

(as a relative),

My father was sent for testing just for the day to Perth Royal just over two weeks ago.  In my opinion, we had the worst care there for his unexpected 6 day stay.  It started off with not listening to him telling them they are not to take of his bandage for his wound he has on his left foot from a burn.  But they didn't listen and then left it exposed without dressing the wound again.  He asked for them to cover it again, but was ignored and it became infected again.  

I observed a carer nurse telling me when my father is having his shower and not telling my father directly.   This is a humiliation to the elderly, specially to those that are fully alert and capable to communicate with others.

Now my father has only a few months left and thankfully his nursing home is going to care for him till the end.  In my opinion, they are what you call well trained and caring.

What you describe here is not the level of service we strive to provide either in terms of care or treatment. All of our patients should be treated with courtesy and respect, have the support and compassionate care that they deserve and be included in communication around their treatment and care.
