"Lack of patient privacy in reception"

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as the patient),

I went to Geraldton Day Surgery Ward recently for an appointment. Everyone was very friendly but this particular experience has happened before in the Emergency Department. The receptionist asked my details aloud including full name, address and date of birth. Everyone could hear it. I could hear clearly other patients' details being asked aloud at the reception desk. Surely there is a more private way to ask these intimate details. I think they need a more confidential system. The receptionist was impeccable and polite, as were the nurses, but just feel information like that should be kept private somehow.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about the Geraldton Hospital on Patient Opinion. I acknowledge the concerns that you have raised and we are aware that in some areas the design is not ideal for our patients providing personal information. I have spoken to Derek Fraser, Geraldton Hospital Operations Manager regarding your concerns and staff will be reminded regarding confidentially. Your story has also been shared with staff at all sites across our region as a reminder of the importance of confidentiality and to be mindful when we are dealing with people's personal information.

Planning has commenced for the Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment and I will forward your feedback on to the team for consideration for factoring into the areas where our patients and consumers are required to provide personal details.
