"Wonderful staff at Sale Hospital"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department Sale Hospital / Women's and Children's

(as the patient),

Earlier this year, I gave birth to my 4th child at Sale Hospital and can not fault a single thing.

My baby had to spend a night in the nursery away from me as there were a few issues but all the nurses were beyond amazing about it, they kept me informed, involved and comforted while the paediatrician ran tests and got to work making my baby better. Scott was the paediatrician training under Dr. Saba and I can not thank him enough he truly is one of the best already!

At 6 weeks old my baby was readmitted to Sale Hospital...we waited only a short time before we were seen and sent for X-rays etc.

Whilst there was a rather horrible incident that happened to me and my children by another patient in emergency (who was unknown to me) all the staff including the orderlies and the security were straight onto it and made us safe again. All were supportive, caring and sympathetic to my situation offering all sorts of services, help and care in hospital and for at home afterwards.

We then spent one night in the paediatric ward and again were treated like royalty. The nurses from the maternity ward who recognised me from 6 weeks earlier would stop me as I walked past asking questions and showing genuine care about my baby's health, a few even came to visit my baby in the room once they realised it was us.

All beautiful people with massive hearts.

Can not praise or thank them enough xo

Dear JSLZ90

My name is Kate Roberts and I am the Nurse Unit Manager of our Emergency Department (ED). I would like to thank you for your great post about our health service.

I would also like to discuss the part of your prior visit to our ED which concerned you.

We aim to provide the safest care possible during any patient’s visit to the ED. Our staff, both clinical and non-clinical, are aware of the impact that potentially adverse events or incidents can have on patients in the department. Sometimes a small group of patients or their relatives/friends can display behaviour which is challenging to manage appropriately.

In all cases, our aim is to provide care to the highest level possible, despite those challenges, and I would be happy to discuss your experience further at any time if you feel that it would be helpful to you or your family.

Thank you again for your feedback to us.

Kate

Update posted by JSLZ90 (the patient)

Hi Kate,

I’m happy to talk to you more about it, I had a few different types of staff members come see me in my child's room afterwards to make sure we were OK and to offer their assistance. I’m unsure of full names though.

Dear JSLZ90

My name is Kim Costin and I am the Nurse Unit Manager of our Women’s & Children's Unit. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

It was very pleasing to know that the care you and your baby received as inpatients on our unit was positive. I look forward to sharing your experience with our hard working team. I know they will feel rewarded by your acknowledgement and kind words. Feedback is important to us as we endeavour to provide safe quality care for all our patients.

I am sorry to read that there was an incident in our Emergency Department involving yourself and your children but I'm pleased to hear that following the incident, you received supportive care from our colleagues working in the Emergency Department.

I trust you and your little one are now both doing well and wish you good health. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me on (03) 5143 8150.

Yours Sincerely

Kim
