(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

Recently a friend was palliated and died at the hospital. He had also had care from the District Nursing Team as well before coming to the hospital to die. I sat with him for 3 days not wanting him to die alone. During those last 3 days, I was amazed at how dedicated staff were and how they provided care & love,  magnificent times a million. I witnessed staff coming in to speak with him even though he was unconscious, telling him everything would be ok whilst talking with him and stroking his forehead. They kept reassuring him and treated him with so much kindness. This care I saw from everyone including the Ambulance, Nurses - the whole team at Bass Coast Health. I don't think everyone truly understands in the community how our local hospital and other emergency services are doing such a great job. Thank you.

Dear Quaqz73,

This touched me deeply. I so appreciated that you did not want your friend to die alone. I was also so proud that our staff did what I would hope for if someone I loved was dying. There is no greater privilege for a health care worker than to provide compassion, care and support as people reach their end of life. Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge this. Take care of yourself now and know that your friend would have passed in peace knowing that you were with them.
