"Taught strategies to beat substance abuse"

About: Lives Lived Well – Dubbo (Roadmaps)

(as a service user),

I am an Aboriginal male who has spent more time in the lock-up than out. I have a mental health diagnosis and used many substances since I was in my early teens. I attended Roadmpaps at the suggestion of my Parole Officer.

By going to Roadmaps, I have learnt strategies for substances to take a back seat in my life and for my family to be at the front.

Old habits can be hard to shake and it's good to get different ideas and learn new things. I really enjoyed the yarning and I spoke up and encouraged others.

Dear taurusgx75,

Well done! It sounds like you are starting to recognise some pretty important strategies in overcoming or addressing your drug and/ or alcohol issues. I'll let the staff know that they have made a difference and that the Roadmaps program is working well in the region.

I am also really pleased to hear that you felt comfortable and were able to yarn. It is a goal that Lives Lived Well are able to engage Aboriginal people in a culturally appropriate way - and your email assists us in knowing how we are going.

I encourage you to keep up the great progress and continue to work on your personal issues.

If you need more support, please feel free to contact Roadmaps again or call Lives Lived Well on 1300 596 366.

Kind regards,

Lara McLaughlin, Quality Coordinator
