My adult daughter has had mental health problems for many years and I have taken her to ED on multiple occasions. Taking an adult child to ED for what you consider to be a mental health emergency, can be very awkward. I often feel as though I'm having to fight for recognition of what I'm concerned about.
A few nights ago I became very concerned about my daughter's behaviour. I wasn't sure whether I should take her to ED or not. It is such a taxing experience - maybe they wouldn't think the problem was bad enough to take up their time.
I decided I would take that risk and took my daughter to SCGH ED. I was so pleased when my daughter and I were greeted by a lovely triage nurse named Ellen. She was completely empathetic and recognised how concerning the situation was. She followed up with me when my daughter was admitted into the ED to see how I was. Ellen gave me food and kindness, and made what was a very difficult situation much more bearable.
