"Pregnancy and birth after loss"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth to my second son, under the care of the Family Birth Centre, KEMH in Perth. Last year I gave birth to my first son at KEMH who was heartbreakingly stillborn. After losing our precious son last year, I knew this pregnancy after his loss and this birth, would be a difficult one.

For my first sons pregnancy, I had the most caring and supportive Midwife Mimi and her team at the Family Birth Centre (FBC), and knew I wanted to return to the FBC for my subsequent pregnancy. I applied for the FBC early in my pregnancy, and requested Mimi again as my primary Midwife. I was so lucky to be able to have her continuation of care again this pregnancy, and for the birth.

My pregnancy after loss was very stressful, and although it was low risk, I opted for more regular check ups and reassurance ultrasounds throughout. Mimi and FBC team supported my requests, and I was also able to come in for reassurance apps at anytime- which I did on multiple occasions. I was supported in the most caring and professional way, throughout my entire pregnancy. Mimi went above and beyond in her care for me during the pregnancy, and made sure to do her best to provide the birth experience I hoped for.

The birth was difficult due to his position, and I did end up needing to be transferred from the FBC to KEMH during labour. But Mimi and her Midwife team did such an amazing job monitoring my son throughout the labour, and ensuring I was supported as much as possible. The team ensured I birthed my baby boy safely, and I am just so grateful to Mimi, and all the Midwifes at the FBC for their exceptional level of care. I am so relieved to finally have our son home safe, happy and well, and cannot thank Mimi and the team more for everything they have done for me, and for my son.
I highly recommend birthing at the Family Birth Centre, and KEMH, and the continuation of care offered by the Midwives there. I will be forever grateful to Mimi and her team at the FBC.

Dear gammaxj43

Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story and congratulations on your birth of your baby boy. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your precious son last year, and I'm so glad to hear that your second son is now home safe and well. Mimi and the team at the Family Birth Centre (FBC) and KEMH truly seem to have provided exceptional care and support during both of your pregnancies.

Your experience highlights the importance of compassionate and dedicated care, especially during such sensitive times. I’m so happy to hear that you felt so supported and cared for throughout your pregnancy and birth, and that Mimi was able to provide such reassurance as you navigated pregnancy after loss.

We will be sure to pass your feedback to Mimi and the FBC team, and I have no doubt your gratitude for their warmth and care will mean so much to them. Your recommendation of the FBC and KEMH will surely be valuable to others who are seeking a supportive birthing environment.

Kind regards,

Delaney
