"Waiting to be processed"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Theatre / Day Procedure Unit

(as the patient),

I was asked to be at the swan Hill hospital for a biopsy at 12.45pm. Lunch time. I was told to be on time. I drove two hrs arriving about 10 minutes prior to my time. I waited an hour to be seen. Once l was seen i moved along quite well. My question is why was i asked to be here on time yet you fail to be close to this time. I could have arrived 30 minutes or more late.

I have been here three times over the last couple of weeks. I also waited 3/4 hr between nurse appointments during my pre-op appointment.

Apart from a staff member I saw in day procedure who l found to be quite abrupt and grumpy, I believe the rest of your staff can't be faulted.

Dear lotionws88,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. I'd like to acknowledge how frustrating it can be to wait, especially when you've arrived on time and had a distance to travel. We do our best to organise staggered admission times to minimise our patients wait times prior to surgery. Unfortunately, at times there can be unexpected delays due to complications in earlier procedures, emergency cases needing to be prioritised, or clinical teams needing additional time to ensure each patient is cared for safely

Patients generally wait for approximately 2 hours prior to their procedure to enable the patient to be asked admission questions and to ensure they receive the best individualised care. After admission, patients will be changed into theatre attire and are seen by the anesthetist prior to their surgery. We need to ensure we have adequate time to provide a safe journey.

Thank you again for reaching out and please contact myself by calling 50339250 or alternatively by email jdillon@shdh.org.au or Nurse Unit Manager Theatre Dianne: Dcraig@shdh.org.au if you would like to discuss this further.

Kind Regards

Jo Dillon
