I had an amazing experience at the Family Birth Centre for the birth of my first child. The centre was aligned to my vision of a positive, holistic and mother centred birthing experience, and I felt supported every step of the way for achieving my ideal birth outcome (or being open to the realistic expectation of different ways my birth could turn out).
Our midwife Mimi was welcoming and kind, and always attentive to any questions we had. She provided details on where to gain additional information on prenatal, birth and postnatal education, and was encouraging of facilitating the kind of birth experience we desired. I felt well taken care of, and confident in the support that FBC would provide when it came to the birth of our child.
On the day of my birth, Mimi was unavailable however I was more than comfortable to allow the FBC midwifery team to take care of me, and felt safe in the knowledge that they would be respectful of my birthing plan and intended birth environment. I was able to give birth in the bath, and felt well cared for throughout the whole birthing experience. I had some complications post birth and had to go upstairs to the main hospital. My FBC midwife came with us upstairs and ensured proper care and handover was given to the main hospital staff.
I would recommend the Family Birth Centre for those looking to achieve vaginal and predominantly unmedicated births in a calming, holistic and nurturing environment not typically offered by major hospitals. It was so lovely to have continuity of care throughout the whole birthing experience, and feel confident that even if my primary midwife was unavailable, there would be someone on staff who would be attentive to my needs and wishes in birth.
