"Giving birth at the Family Birth Centre in Perth"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as the patient),

This was the most amazing experience of my life! I had a very traumatic birth with my first child that ended in a catheter post natal for 5 weeks - my bladder was severely damaged where I could no longer go correctly and received no support for it which then took years to get back to normal

I was always told if I had another child I would have to have a caesarean

I was very against that as I did not want another catheter or epidural/spinal tap

I was consistently told by my gp and other medical professionals it was my only option until I met someone who said to try the family birth centre

I reached out and informed them of my history and just hoped I wasn’t going to be high risk

I was so fortune when I was accepted by one of their midwives

I was beyond grateful and the whole time I felt heard, supported and encouraged to do it my way which was as natural as possible

I knew in my gut that it was the way to go and I’m so glad I didn’t listen to others and had my wonderful midwife guide me through each step of the way - I learnt so much about myself and how amazing women are to go through this journey of child birth

I wish all hospitals were like this because I feel I did not receive the same courtesy or knowledge during my first pregnancy.

To be able to experience giving birth how it I feel was meant to be with no interference or force was beyond my expectations - the support and encouragement from all staff I saw at the FBC is just wonderful! Even my mum was beyond amazed by the experience, who was able to be there with me during the birth

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend the family birth centre enough! I think that to have the same midwife throughout is by far the best way to be supported during pregnancy and the birth!

I was able to do it all naturally and have no damage / issues with my bladder after

Thank you for all the love and support FBC

Dear warmrm93

Thank you for taking the time to share the wonderfully positive experience you had through the Family Birth Centre (FBC). I am so pleased that you felt so heard and supported, and that you were able to have the natural birth you wanted. Your story highlights beautifully the benefits of the continuity of care provided by the FBC midwifery team.

I will be delighted to share this lovely feedback with the team. Thanks again.

Best wishes

Delaney
