"Postnatal Care at Fiona Stanley Hospital"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Antenatal Clinic, Birth Suite, Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit, Wards 3B, 3C, 3D, 3DO, Visiting Midwife Service

(as the patient),

Fiona Stanley Hospital is where I have been under the care for during my first pregnancy this year. I have just given birth on the 2/9/25 via an elected caesarean birth after coming in multiple times for reduced movements.

The doctors and midwives involved in my care have been so attentive and thorough in their checks, and it was my preference to deliver via c section rather than an induction due to my history of mental health struggles and anxiety, and the planned option felt like the right choice for us. I have been linked in with the mental health from the start, regularly seeing the perinatal psychologist which helped me prepare my mindset for birth and beyond immensely.

It seems to me that so many people complain about the public health system and hospitals, but I cannot fault it. I am so grateful to be able to have access to these services and my experience at Fiona Stanley has been amazing. My stay in hospital post birth was really helpful, having the midwives helping me and my baby. I found it most helpful when the midwives were kind, empathetic and offered help.

I would particularly like to mention midwife Tahlia from Ward 3C, her kindness, knowledge and care made my whole post birth experience so much better, particularly when I was feeling distressed. There were some staff that I felt showed reluctance to help me and lacked empathy, which I found very difficult and made me feel like I couldn’t ask for help.

I understand that the ward is very busy, but I believe that if each staff member can walk into the room when it is mother and baby, so vulnerable and be kind and offer help, it makes such a difference.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with my experience here and I can’t thank you enough.
