"The birth of my baby boy with MGP3."

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as the patient),

I am beyond grateful for the care received by Vicky within the KEMH Family Birth Centre / MGP3 for my first pregnancy and birth. As a midwife myself, it was a difficult transition to put your full trust in someone else to provide your care, to put away your midwife cap and embrace mum mode. Vicky made this process easy and seamless, I felt safe, well cared for and heard at all times. Vicky always made time to listen and process any worries or concerns, never made me feel rushed and always made me feel valid. The world needs more Vickys!!!

During my pregnancy, Vicky provided me with outstanding women-centred care and both myself and my husband felt extremely well informed and supported at every appointment. When my pregnancy hit a bump in the road and my baby was found to be in the breech presentation, all the possible avenues and options were explored and my preference for vaginal breech birth (if required) was supported by both my midwife and the obstetric team. Thankfully, my baby was successfully turned via ECV at 36wks and head down at the time I went into labour. After weeks of attempts to get baby head down, I finally could again look forward to my FBC low intervention labour and birth. However, my baby had other plans when my waters broke at 36+5 weeks. When I phoned my midwife, she provided me with the reassurance I needed that if I couldn't go to the birth centre due to being preterm "the birth centre will be brought to me". I am so grateful for Vickys gold-standard care during labour that meant I was still able to achieve the lovely calm and supportive environment that I was after, just in a different setting. Despite the twists and turns of spontaneous preterm labour, my midwife was my biggest advocate and gave me the strength and motivation to achieve the spontaneous vaginal birth I desperately wanted.

My secondary midwife Yumi was also present for part of my labour, birth and took care of us postnatally. Yumi is exceptionally thorough, intuitive, kind and also has the most amazing women-centred approach. I had the dream team primary and secondary midwife and couldn’t be more grateful.

MGP midwives work exceptionally hard and are always at the other end of the phone for their clients, at all hours of the day and night. My midwife Vicky provided such a compassionate, warm and nurturing approach to her care, I truly felt like she really cared about me, my perinatal experience and went above and beyond at every opportunity. Will be forever grateful and sing the praises of my care any chance I can get!!

Dear 1208ashs

I loved reading about your experience with our Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) 3, especially about the exceptional care you received from Vicky, your primary midwife, and your reflections on your care as a midwife yourself. Your story highlights the powerful impact of continuity of care, and we’re so pleased that you felt safe, supported, and well cared for throughout your journey even when things didn’t go exactly how you had hoped. It is really lovely to hear that despite your birth not taking place at the birth centre, you were still able to birth in a calm and supportive environment.

I will be very happy to share your kind words of appreciation with Vicky, Yumi and the rest of the team. I am sure they will be thrilled to know how much their care meant to you.

Wishing you all the best,

Delaney
