I delivered my son at the mat ward at 34+6 weeks. He came 5 weeks early, therefore needed to be placed in the Special Care Nursery. The nurses and midwives were absolutely amazing. I felt comfortable and informed at all points of care for myself and my son. The Nursey is new, therefore there was teething issues, which I hope will get sorted out (cleaning while other babies are in the room - very strong bleach), access card for parents only (to not interrupt the midwives and nurses all the time for access to their baby), if breastfeeding is encouraged, a bed available for the mother if they live further than 20 mins or so.
Our experience was very positive, as we didn't have to go to Perth and were able to stay closer to home with a trustworthy medical team looking after our boy. I think it has been a fantastic addition to Albany Health Campus and really was a good experience for me, being a first time mum with a premature baby that needed support for the first 2 weeks of his life. The paediatric doctors were so supportive and thorough and encouraged holistic care where possible. On being discharged from the Special care nursery, everyone was so lovely and positive and it was really a wonderful experience for such a stressful time.
