"Early discharge after c-section"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I had a good birth experience at Bunbury Hospital doctor anaesthetists and surgeon were really professional. However, I arrived from margaret river in labour at the ED and no one offered to bring me on the maternity ward. I saw 2 workers were sitting chatting at the reception and the ED was empty. My husband had to find a wheelchair himself and we had to find the maternity ward ourself while i was labouring.

Also, I was 2 days post operation after c-section and I felt I was rushed by the nurses to leave hospital. I was in so much pain in bunbury and I believe they wanted to send me home because the ward was to busy. I got transferred to another hospital which was amazing because I had all the support needed. I think that women shouldn't be rushed and needs time post partum to get some support and education at the hospital to feel stronger before going home.

Dear Heya,

Thankyou for taking the time to share your experience at Bunbury Hospital via care opinion. And congratualtions on the arrival of your bub.

We are pleased to hear that your birth and surgical care were handled professionally by our team of doctors and anaesthetists. However, we are truly sorry for the difficulties you faced upon arrival and during your recovery.

Your feedback highlights important areas for improvement—particularly ensuring that women in labour receive immediate assistance when presenting to the Emergency Department. It is never acceptable for a patient in labour to feel unsupported, and we will review our processes to prevent this from happening again.

In regards to your discharge from the ward, I am sorry that you felt rushed to go home, this was not our intent. The South West hospitals all aim to provide care closer to home and therefore at Bunbury we aim to transfer you back to your local hospital as soon as you are feeling able to travel. This enables you to receive care closer to family and friends, but also is a more relaxed environment, given Bunbury can be busy at times. I apologise that this wasn't explained to you at the time of transfer. I am pleased that you were able to rest and receive the ongoing care and support you required at your local hospital prior to your discharge home. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will ensure our team communicates these guidelines more clearly in the future, while continuing to prioritise patient comfort and support.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. If you would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we value your voice and want to ensure you feel heard. I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Yours sincerely.

Katrina Jones
