"My prenatal care and birth experience"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as a service user),

I had the majority of my prenatal appointments with Midwife Grace at the Family Birth Center. She was so sweet and made me feel very calm and excited about giving birth at the center. She was very thorough during all my prenatal appointments and always kept me in the loop about lab results and the next steps etc.

When I went into labor, Midwife Steph immediately responded to my 3 am call and promptly met me at the center as per my request. After examining me, we decided that I would continue laboring at home, as it was still early on and I was only 3 cm dilated. By sunrise things had progressed quickly and my hubby and I made our way back to the birthing center. I already had the urge to push in the car and my partner parked infront of the center's entrance, where a couple of midwives rushed out to assist.

Midwife Danika was amazing and was the one coaching me through the quick birth. She listened to my concerns and encouraged me to listen to my body. After only a couple of pushes my son was safely born in the back seat of the car with Danika's help. All the midwives there were so wonderful and I can highly reccommend the center if you are wanting an unmedicated, low intervention and calm birthing experience.

Dear Dee17,

I would firstly like to congratulate you on the birth of your son. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your positive experience with the team at the Family Birth Centre (FBC).

It was wonderful to read that Grace was able to support you throughout your prenatal appointments giving you that continuity of care and that Steph was there to meet you in the early hours of the morning once labour began. I was so pleased to read that together you and Steph were able to manage your early labour in line with your wishes and that you felt safe and supported. What an amazing story to tell of the birth of your son in the back seat of the car and that despite not making it into the birth centre, midwife Danika was able to support and encourage you during your quick labour.

At the Women & Newborn Health Service we strive to provide positive experiences and compassionate care to all our patients, and learning that our efforts have been so well received is very affirming. I will be sure to pass on your beautiful feedback to Grace, Steph, Danika and the team at the FBC.

Wishing you and your family all the best,

Melinda
