"Unanswered Door Bell"

About: Morawa Perenjori Community Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently I attended MPHS for my child's immunisation & check up with the child health nurse. I pressed the door bell to be let into the facility and waited outside in the 38 degree heat for 8mins prior to getting in when another patient opened the door to exit the facility.

At no point was the door opened by a worker. At no point was I approached by a healthcare worker whilst waiting in the waiting room for our child health nurse appointment. There was no one in the front office to inform the child health nurse of our arrival.

I felt very unsettled about not have the doorbell answered, thinking 'what if I was needing the emergency department & no one answers the door or phone...' it cant be relied on having the door opened from the inside by another patient exiting the facility.

I believe this needs immediate review before something terrible happens to someone in the community seeking professional, medical attention.

Dear A579

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us in Care Opinion.

I would like to offer my apologies to yourself and your child for the uncomfortable wait you had to access the Morawa Perenjori Health Service on such a hot day. I hope once you accessed the health service you and your child obtained high quality care.

I can confirm there was recently a short period recently when the health service suffered a failure to the front door alert system, which alert’s the nurse’s phone when activated. The outage also affected the CCTV for the area too. The issue was rectified within two hours, unfortunately this must have coincided with your visit. The staff member who would normally staff the front office was on some unplanned leave and this compounded the issue. During this time the Emergency Department door was operational, allowing access to the health service. Your feedback highlights that we could have placed a temporary sign directing consumers to the Emergency Department entrance for that short period of time. I apologise for this lack of proactive management of this situation.

If you would like to discuss this further, I would be very happy to speak with you. My name is Michael Barry, I am the Acting Operations Manager Midwest Murchison and can be contacted at 0427196716.

Regards

Michael Barry
