I have just birthed my second baby through the family birth centre and it was such a wonderful experience. To be able to have continuity of care throughout my pregnancy and through my labour and birth made all the difference when it came time to actually giving birth! I had a midwife who knew me and could work with me during labour in a way that someone who hadn’t gotten to know me couldn’t have. And because I had spent my whole pregnancy building a relationship with my midwife, when it came to giving birth, I trusted her.
I loved every aspect of antenatal and postnatal care given, especially the experience I had straight after giving birth. With my first baby I was transferred from the birth centre to the delivery ward at king Edward’s and I didn’t enjoy the first moments after birth.
Fast forward to this birth and I had the most peaceful and relaxed first moments with my newborn, hours that I will never forget. The room and quiet, there was no beeping or people in the room. Just my husband and myself and our new baby and midwives who assisted where required and needed which was wonderful.
I am beyond thankful for the birth centre for assisting me give birth to our baby and wouldn’t change a thing about it!
