I was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital by my partner as I had begun to have acute chest pains, as well as excruciating kidney pain.
I was triaged and left to sit there for 2 hours before seeing a nurse for an ECG, bloods and urine. By this point I had ready given urine to the triage nurse.
I was then left in another waiting room for another 4 hours till I was taken to a bed - by this point my pain had become excruciating and I was struggling to stay coherent, my partner had asked a nurse infront of the room if I could be seen or receive pain medication to manage it. She said she would pass it on, he heard her asking for who the nurse was for our room but apparently no one knew.
I was given relief then was seen by a doctor - who immediately prescribed heavier relief and multiple avenues to check for my sickness - he was lovely, empathetic and focused of patient care. However I was switched to another doctor who pretty much said there was nothing to do besides refer me to a GP - during this discussion the doctor alluded to the pain being in my head before backtracking and saying it might be from a flu I had 3 weeks ago or radiating pain from my ovaries.
I felt the doctor constantly cut me off when I was trying to ask about my tests, results and why I feel myself worsening. I shut the conversation down and requested my IV to be removed so I could leave. After nearly 18 hours, I was told that they didn’t know what was causing my pain or making me sick - I have never in my life felt so belittled and demeaned. Then when receiving the discharge paperwork the doctor stood at a half opened door and seemingly shoved it at me.
I hope this is not a consistent pattern with this doctor.
