"Family birth centre"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as the patient),

Amazing experience throughout pregnancy birth and first days of baby.

We were. Listened to and treated holistically. Coming from reoccurring losses and IVF for this baby. I had high anxiety. Particularly through weeks 16-20 when I wasn’t feeling movements yet I had a death in the family and I was made redundant. I came in multiple times to check baby heart rate to settle my anxiety. Midwife’s were exceptionally caring and calming. I was always encouraged to attend rather than worry. This made a world of difference in those weeks.

The information was delivered in very easy to understand words. Appointments were never rushed. We developed a great relationship with our midwife and cannot speak highly enough for the continuous care model. The information was based on evidence and we were given opportunity to make informed choices about how we wanted to be supported in pregnancy and birth.

The birth was very supported. I felt safe and in control of the process the whole time. I felt fully supported and safe in the hands. Of the team.

We had delivered our son in the family birth centre and chose to attend again because it was such a great experience thee birth. We again had a water birth, low lighting, what felt like just me and my partner bringing our child into the world. Having the best of both worlds, a home like setting but knowing we had an exceptionally experienced and knowledgeable team to help spot if we needed intervention. I didn’t think I could beat the experience of my sons birth but our daughters was even more amazing.

Dear Peppermb93,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and thank you for taking the time to give your thanks for the care you received through the Family Birth Centre (FBC).

It was heartwarming to see how supported you felt during your pregnancy and that the team were able to provide you with exceptional care and support during such a difficult time for you and your family. It is clear that the care and information you received throughout your pregnancy allowed you to make well informed choices and feel in control going into labour.

I was so pleased you were able to have yet another amazing birth in the birth centre. It is always wonderful to hear of the positive impact our midwives have on patients’ pregnancy and birthing experience and I will be sure to pass on your kind words to the FBC team.

Wishing you and your family all the best,

Melinda
